SL Writers Project - the Philosophy

People who write because they see it as a way to make money are in for a disappointment. There are hundreds of thousands of writers. Only a very few of them make money from writing. Where they do it is dribs and drabs. That is the harsh reality.

People who write because they are writers, while of course accepting that money might happen but if not it’s not the end of the world, their passion is for the writing.

They do not keep doing it because they want money. They keep doing it because they want to produce something wonderful for people to read. They know it is not about showing off their own cleverness.

It is about giving people the pleasure of reading it for the first time. That is what got them hooked on writing; reading, the storytelling, the enchantment, the suspension of disbelief.

With the SL Community Project I fast discovered there are two sorts of writer.

There are those who will only become involved in a community project if they get paid and there are those who don’t care about the money, they simply want to showcase their imagination to share it with others.

Those, as it happens, turn out to be the ones with the most vivid writing and colourful imaginations. I am confident in saying this because, well, you can read it for yourselves. You will see what I mean.

As far as making money from a product is concerned it is like Bryce Thomas author of Rhamin said. “ You can have the best product in the world. But if nobody has heard of it, what’s the point?”

What sells does not sell because it is quality. Making money, therefore, is not about quality. What sells is what people know about and can afford to buy. Primarily it is what people know about, as we will save up for something we know about and want. If we don’t know it exists how can we want it and buy it? Making money comes down not to quality, but to advertising and marketing.

Another mentor, Ehan Kidd, said to me that “people are curious”, the wisdom of her mentor La Peste. This curiosity drives word of mouth. That is how the underground works. That is how rebellions are started. So we cannot say it is not effective. History is full of events which happened this way.

When people believe they have discovered something for themself they feel they are part of it and it is part of them. By comparison an advertising campaign makes people feel pressured into purchasing something they do not have that connection with. This is how products become loved and protected. This is how people who do know about them create unbreakable bonds of kinship.

Not because they saw an advert on tv and ordered it in the disposable consumerism culture. But because they feel it found them, guided by the fates to connect them with it. You can not buy that experience even if you happily will pay any amount to partake in some echo of it.

These two different approaches, the humanistic approach and the commercial approach.

With SL Writers Project is a community project. It is about people. A decision was made not to run a crowd-funded campaign trying to make money before we even had a product, attempting to draw writers into it on that capitalist basis.

To do so would put the power into the hands of trusting into a community of strangers who might not care about the vision to connect with it that way. Dealing with energies in the magical act of creation requires to draw through into it such writers of the type I wanted to present, the stories I wanted to share.

Nobody who writes first to make money and second because they care about the reader, would have the necessary energy to convey. Greed clouds the magic. It is as simple as that.

The SL Writers project is something special. I am proud of it because testing this form of operating has proven very fruitful.

Some people claim we can have both capitalism and humanitarianism at the same time. The Sufi speak of the Magical Universe. I have give you a gift here to express to you how when faced with two comparative doors, you can enter only through one of them. Their destinations are not the same.

As to whether the SL Writers will make any money? More important is that copies will come into existence which will find their way to where they need to be; for whom they are intended. People who need to connect with the energy it contains. That is a part of our human healing. That is what this project is all about.
